Welcome to 2010 Polar Plunge

Saturday, March 13, 2010
North Hempstead Beach Park, Port Washington
Its wild crazy and FUN! So grab a friend and come support our CSEA Long Island Region Bathing Beauties
As a CSEA member, we have a special responsibility to join in this fight. Our tradition of influence and action begins at the grass roots level with member involvement. We can be the sparks for others in our community to get more involved and truly make a difference.
A Polar Plunge is a fundraising challenge made to an individual or group challenging them to dive into a cold body of water in order to raise money for Special Olympics. Please help us reach our CSEA goal of $25,000.00 by making a check out to Special Olympics as little as a $1.00 and mail it to: CSEA Region 1,  3 Garet Place, Commack, NY 11725 or your Local Office. You can also go to www.specialolympicsny.org and donate under CSEA Long Island Region Bathing Beauties.

The "CSEA Long Island Region Bathing Beauties" are all set up online for the 2010 Polar Plunge. Go to our team page at www.nyso.org, click on the Long Island Polar Plunge and find the team name. The LI region raised more than $4,500 for the Special Olympics last year, which was the largest total for any of the six CSEA regions. So join us at Bar Beach in Port Washington to help us defend our title. Pictured: The "Bathing Beauties" at the 2009 event.

OUR MISSION
STATEMENT

As working men and women- everyone and everywhere – we are our greatest resource.
We organize and represent workers to ensure our voice is heard, our place at the table is kept and the American dream is ours in the 21st century. As a labor union, we hold these values as our working principles:

Honesty: We are honest with ourselves and each other.

Inclusiveness: Every group, every idea is welcomed.

Full Participation: We encourage and expect full participation in all union matters.

Respect: We respect each other and honor our differences.

Diversity: We celebrate our diversity and use it to strengthen us.

Open Communication: We listen and provide for open communication across all parts of our union and in all directions.

Accountability: We are accountable for our actions and decisions

Fiscal Responsibility: We conduct our business in a fiscally sound matter.

As a labor union, we are committed to union democracy and we follow these values with integrity.

Who are the CSEA Local 865 Members?

We are union workers, who can and will join together to enjoy the clout which comes only from solidarity. We are civil service workers who share a common goal, which is to negotiate with our employers from a position of strength. We are workers who know that you have to belong to be strong.

All of our current wages, future raises, health insurance, benefits, and even the rules our members work under are the direct result of contracts that the CSEA has negotiated with employers. In fact, negotiating contracts is our number one priority.

The CSEA is proud that we are a grassroots union where the members themselves elect their officers, and where only members can serve on negotiating teams and vote to ratify contracts.

The CSEA also has a respected political action network to represent your interests before elected officials. As part of the Local 1000, the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees , we belong to the most powerful International Union in the U.S.A.

To our members we say:

Get Involved !!
The more involved you are, the stronger we are, and the more rewarding your membership will be.
